Dana Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble perform Feb. 22

The Youngstown State University Dana School of Music’s Concert Band and Percussion Ensemble perform a concert 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, in Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Avenue, Youngstown. The Concert Band will perform Ron Nelson’s Courtly Airs and Dances, Derek Bourgeois’ Serenade, Op. 22, David Maslanka’s Mother Earth (A Fanfare) and Gustav Holst Second Suite in F for Military Band Op. 28, No. 2. The Percussion Ensemble will round out the evening to include music for both traditional and mixed instrumentation.

Sunday, Feb. 14, 3 p.m. YSU’s Dana School of Music presents a free recital in Bliss Recital Hall featuring guest artists Michelle Abraham, violin, and Vincent Scacchetti, viola, who will join Dana faculty Joseph Kromholz, violin; Jeffrey Singler, cello; and Cicilia Yudha, piano, in an afternoon of music for Valentine’s Day. Parking in the Wick Avenue deck for a nominal fee.

YSU Bridges Out of Poverty Student Union presents poverty simulation this week

The Youngstown State University Bridges Out of Poverty Student Union presents a Poverty Simulation 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Feb. 12,in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus. The event instructs participants in what it is like to live inside of poverty. As a student organization, BOPSU supports under-resourced college students by bringing awareness to issues they may face.

Lariccia School offers free tax preparation through VITA program

Youngstown State University’s Lariccia School of Accounting and Finance is providing trained business students and professional volunteers to offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. VITA offers income tax preparation and e-filing at no charge to local residents and hands-on experience to skilled business students. The program is offered in computer labs on the first floor of Williamson Hall at YSU through April 9.
