Minnijean Brown Trickey - one of the Little Rock Nine - visits campus Oct. 6 and 7

Civil rights leader and peace activist Minnijean Brown Trickey, one of the Little Rock Nine who defied threats to attend an all-white high school in 1957, will be on the campus of Youngstown State University Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 6 and 7 to screen a documentary on her life. “Journey to Little Rock: The Untold Story of Minnijean Brown Trickey” will be screened 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center. An abbreviated version of the documentary will also be screened 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 in McKay Auditorium in the Beeghly College of Education on campus.

"Putnam County Spelling Bee" opens University Theater season

Youngstown State University Theater kicks off the 2015-16 season with the musical, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” with performances starting Oct. 9 in Ford Theater in Bliss Hall on the YSU campus. The show runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9, 10 and 11, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16, 17 and 18. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m., while the Sunday matinee performances are at 2 p.m. Adult tickets are $20.

YSU Biology Day features lectures, info, presentations, awards

The Youngstown State University Department of Biological Sciences presents Biology Day on Tuesday, Oct. 13. The day includes a research poster presentation in the morning in the President Suites of Kilcawley Center, followed by a series of presentations and discussions in the afternoon in Ward Beecher Hall:

McDonough presents "A Day in the Life of an Indie Game Developer" lecture

Organizers of the Youngstown Game Developers Group present a lecture titled, "A Day in the Life of an Indie Game Developer" 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, in the auditorium of the McDonough Museum of Art on the campus of Youngstown State University. The presenters include: Kendra Corpier, a professional graphic designer and game developer, as well as the founder of Eimear Studios. She has a variety of experience in the video game industry, from being a QA tester to working for studios, and even being a part of video game press.
