Shipka Lecture tackles “Morality and the Emotional Brain”
Shaun B. Nichols, a professor at the University of Arizona and president-elect of the Society for Philosophy and Psychology, lectures on “Morality and the Emotional Brain” 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center on the campus of Youngstown State University. The lecture, free and open to the public, is part of the Shipka Speakers Series of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at YSU. For more information, call 330-941-3448. The lecture will examine the role of emotions in human psychology and basic moral judgments. Nichols’ research has been funded by the National Institute of Health, the Templeton Foundation, and the Office of Naval Research. He is the author of Sentimental Rules: On the Natural Foundations of Moral Judgment and Bound: Essays on Free Will and Moral Responsibility and editor of The Architecture of the Imagination, co-editor of Experimental Philosophy (with Joshua Knobe), and co-editor of Oxford Studies in Experimental Philosophy (with Tania Lombrozo and Joshua Knobe). He has published more than 100 articles in academic journals, both in philosophy and psychology. At the University of Arizona he directs a research group on experimental philosophy.
