Two students named Goldwater Scholars, a first for YSU

 

Youngstown State University juniors Andrew Morgan of Vienna, Ohio, and Jenna Wise of Hubbard, have been selected as Goldwater Scholars for the 2016-17 academic year, marking a first in YSU history for two students to receive the prestigious award in the same year. In all, only 11 Ohio residents were chosen. Selected on the basis of academic merit, Morgan and Wise are two of 252 total sophomores and juniors in the United State chosen from a field of 1,150 mathematics, science and engineering students from 415 colleges and universities.

Mock outbreak of The Plague helps prepare campus for disaster

More than 250 Nursing students at Youngstown State University will participate in a mock disaster drill 8 a.m. to noon April 8 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center to help prepare the campus in the event of a medical emergency in the area. “The purpose of the training is to prepare us for a communicable disease outbreak or terrorist attack ,” said Wendy Thomas of YSU’s Student Health Services.

LGBTQIA Safe Zone Ally Training set for April 16 on campus

Youngstown State University students, faculty and staff are invited to attend Safe Zone Ally Training 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16, in McKay Auditorium of the Beeghly College of Education on campus. Safe Zone Ally Training is an ongoing effort to make the YSU campus a safer place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and ally (LGBTQIA) individuals. YHCIL workshop focuses on historic places and landmarks
