LGBTQIA Safe Zone Ally Training set for April 16 on campus

Youngstown State University students, faculty and staff are invited to attend Safe Zone Ally Training 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16, in McKay Auditorium of the Beeghly College of Education on campus. Safe Zone Ally Training is an ongoing effort to make the YSU campus a safer place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and ally (LGBTQIA) individuals. Reservation deadline is April 11. To make a reservation, visit https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1TCV_CKcRIDICkyCoooTIcpLjy-lUb4yWQv44u0HuK1Q/viewform. For more information, contact Brian Wells bpwells@ysu.edu or 330-941-7294. Upon completing Safe Zone training, participants sign the Ally Pledge and will be given a small sign to display in their work space. The Safe Zone sign on a door or window indicates the person inside has volunteered for the training and can be expected to have a level of awareness of issues related to LGBTQIA individuals. Upon signing the Ally Pledge, participants will also be added to the Safe Zone group giving you access to the Safe Zone resource packet and other helpful documents electronically. The Safe Zone group is designed to enable Safe Zone allies to access resources electronically 24/7 and to provide an easy and convenient way for the Safe Zone Advisory Council and YSUnity to provide updates to Safe Zone allies. Safe Zone participants and YSUnity members are not necessarily LGBTQIA; they may be simply people who wish to serve as allies and to offer support and create a positive environment.
