Linguistics Consultations

Linguistics help sessions with a specialized tutor are now offered at the Writing Center's Maag Library main location. These students have been designated by English Department faculty as being trained to work with ENGL 2651, 3755, and 3757. Often these consultants spend time in linguistics courses, similar to a supplemental instruction leaders.

Walk-Ins

Walk-in sessions are available during all business hours at every WC location. They are based on a first-come, first-served basis and can be limited to 25 minutes when other clients are waiting to work with a consultant for a session. Each client is allowed either two walk-ins or a walk-in and an appointment per week.

Employment

There are a number of employment opportunities available at the Writing Center. You need not be an English major; we encourage a variety of majors to apply. The WC currently employs students with teaching, science, linguistics, professional writing and editing, English, foreign language, and creative writing backgrounds.

YSU Fire Safety Monthly Activity

Fire Safety at YSU

Fires on college campuses have become all too common. Many of these fires occur in residence halls due to a number of factors: smoking, improper use of appliances such as microwaves or hot plates, plugging multiple items into a single electrical outlet, candles, etc. All resident students should check the Housing Student Handbook for a list of approved items for use in residence halls. There is no smoking allowed inside of the University residence halls.

Since 1974, the Writing Center has been a successful service for students at YSU. Opened by the Department of English and the Office of Developmental Education, the original WC shared its space with English faculty mailboxes, and it has grown significantly in several different sites since then.
