Description/Rules:

To be utilized for project based work, work of a short term or occasional nature. This individual would be performing work under the direction of a supervisor. Limited to 28 hours per week. Cannot be enrolled as a student. Cannot hold any other employment type with the University. Must be approved prior to commencement of work. Prior approval by HR required before paperwork submittal.

Durations/Limitations:

• 6 months.
• Should not cross fiscal years.

Description/Rules:

Must have a primary job with the University Cannot be offered to hourly (bi-weekly) employees (overtime regulations). Must be approved prior to commencement of work. Approved specifically for the following activities: Bonus, Award or Incentive Payments; mentoring; cyber learning; student teaching supervision; Performers; Honors Institute Instruction; Personal Care Attendants (Rich Center). Justification of compensation required.

• Total hours combined between both assignments must be considered.

Description/Rules:

Utilized for unusual circumstances or unanticipated situations or assignments of additional duties beyond the scope of the assigned duties. Must have a primary job with the University Cannot be offered to hourly (bi-weekly) employees (overtime regulations) Must be approved prior to commencement of work. Cannot be approved as a routine matter or reoccurring basis Pay structure established for Coordinator, Manager/Associate Director, Director, Executive Director, Associate Vice President/Provost and Vice President. Covered by Board Policy 3356-7-46 and Board Policy 3356-7-48. Justification of compensation required. May not exceed the lesser of either 20 percent as calculated on the affected employee’s salary basis or ten thousand dollars during any fiscal year.

Description/Rules:

Generally used for instructors of seminars or non-credit courses. Used when an individual is teaching a segment of a class. For instance, in the Police Academy when an individual is brought in to address specific aspects of a course, such as finger printing, criminal investigation, evidence gathering techniques, etc. Used for courses in Health Professions such as CPR or First Aid that may lead to certification. Used for courses in Real Estate, Tax, Accounting etc. for Continuing Education credits. Used in the English Language Institute (ELI) for Instructors working with students that English is a second language. These are hourly appointments. An hourly rate must be established and timesheet entered for payment. Approved through the Provost Office- Currently Kevin Ball.

Generally, date specific to offerings.

Description/Rules:

May be used for APAS positions to cover leave of absences. May be used to address positions vacancies while a search is being conducted. May be used when a position will not be filled on a permanent basis.

Considerations:

• An extension may be requested in 90 day increments.
• Appointments may extend beyond 120 days for reasons of sickness, disability or other approved leave of absence.
• Appointments beyond 120 days may be offered bargaining unit status

Duration/Limitation:

• Initial appointment not to exceed 90 days in duration

Description/Rules:

• The temporary placement of an existing employee in a position due to the absence of an incumbent who is expected to return to the position (e.g., incumbent on leave of absence).
• Upon the return of the incumbent, the acting appointment will return to his/her former position.
• An acting appointee may be a candidate to permanently fill a position unless non-candidacy for the permanent position was a condition of the acting appointment.
• An acting appointment is appropriate when an incumbent employee will be unavailable or unable to perform his/her job responsibilities for more than thirty days or in those situations in which the continuation of the incumbent’s job responsibilities is critical to the effective continuing operation of the university.
• For all other administrative acting appointments, the immediate supervisor in consultation with the appropriate executive officer and the chief human resources officer shall determine if an acting/interim appointmentsis necessary for the effective operation of the unit or if an employee(s) is able to take on additional assignments and/or responsibilities for a limited time while maintaining his/her current job responsibilities.
• Applies to all executive, administrative officers and to administrative non-bargaining positions.
• Covered by Board Policy 3356-9-10 Acting/interim appointments of university administrators.

Considerations:

• Compensation shall be in accordance with human resources supplemental pay guidelines.
• Renewals approved by the executive Officer or President and the Chief Human Resources Officer.
• The President has the authority to appoint an acting or interim executive officer.
• Equal opportunity guidelines shall be considered when making an acting appointment.

Duration/Limitations:

• Initial appointment may last for 180 days.
• May be renewed in 30 day increments.
