Do not give panhandlers money; there are better ways to assist the homeless. Do not be fooled: food, shelter, and assistance are available to those in need. Panhandling for drugs or alcohol is very common. Walk purposefully and with confidence. Give the appearance that you are aware of your surroundings and what is going on around you. Acknowledge a panhandler with a nod, and answer the request for money by saying “no”. Then walk away. Do not be angry or feel guilty.
Laptop computers are in hot demand by thieves throughout the country so please use a little common sense when bringing your laptop computer to the YSU campus. Here are a few tips to help you keep your laptop and not become prey to a sneaky criminal.

Never leave your laptop computer unattended in any public location (i.e. classrooms, the library, study lounges, public benches, or in a locker).
Always securely lock offices or dorm rooms where the laptop is stored.
Carjacking is a very serious and sometimes traumatic form of auto theft. It is also a crime of opportunity that can threaten an individuals personal safety.
Carjackers utilize particular conditions to select their victims in which they target the vulnerable, unaware and/or unprepared people. It is very important that you appear to be confident and also aware of your surroundings at all times, especially when driving at slow speeds and stopping or parking at the following:
