Youngstown State University Launches PENGUINsafe App for Campus Safety

Youngstown State University has launched PENGUINsafe, a new, free mobile app designed to improve campus safety for YSU students, faculty and staff on and around campus.

Developed in collaboration with YSU’s Police Department, Information Technology department and Office of Marketing and Communications, PENGUINsafe integrates seamlessly with Penguin Alert, the university's emergency communication system, to provide enhanced support in times of need.

YSU announces the 2025 Penguin Shark Tank finalists

Finalists have been announced for the Youngstown State University Penguin Shark Tank competition March 20.

This exciting event offers students the chance to compete for up to $10,000, with top prizes awarded for Best Business Idea and Best Established Business. There is also a prize for the audience-selected Fan Favorite.

Sara Fleet Michaliszyn Appointed Dean of Bitonte College of Health and Human Services at Youngstown State University

Sara Fleet MichaliszynYoungstown State University has announced the appointment of Sara Fleet Michaliszyn, Ph.D., as the new dean of the Bitonte College of Health and Human Services, effective immediately. Michaliszyn has served as interim dean since 2024 and has dedicated much of her academic career to YSU, contributing to education, research and community service.

YSU presents Linda Gordon for Women’s History Month

Linda GordonYoungstown State University’s Darling Endowment in US History is hosting a presentation from Lina Gordon about “The Much Misunderstood Women’s Liberation Movement” at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 20.

The presentation will discuss the popular and scholarly writing about the American women’s liberation movement that is marked by misleading emphases and that has neglected vital parts of the movement.
