YSU Jazz Combos present an Evening of Timeless Jazz at Spotlight Theater
Youngstown State University’s Jazz Studies Area proudly presents the YSU Jazz Combos Concert 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025 in the Spotlight Theater, Bliss Hall. Under the direction of Kent Engelhardt and Glenn Schaft, this dynamic concert will showcase two talented student ensembles performing classic jazz selections.
The Jazz Sextet, led by Engelhardt, features Niko Kawalick (trumpet), Nick Komara (saxophone), Osa Omoregie (guitar), Carter Ulery (piano), Javin Shafer (bass) and Anthony DeMain (drums). Engelhardt’s sextet will perform “Little Sunflower” by Freddie Hubbard, “Veird Blues” by Miles Davis and “Pent Up House” by Sonny Rollins.
The Jazz Trio, led by Schaft, features Aaron White (piano), Nick Steeves (bass) and Evan Stefancin (drums) and will bring their unique interpretation of jazz standards to the stage.
This performance offers an exciting opportunity to experience the artistry and improvisational skills of YSU’s jazz students as they breathe new life into these legendary compositions. Admission is free and open to the public.
