Sculptor to offer guest artist lecture and workshop Sept. 20
Youngstown State University’s Department of Art announces a workshop and lecture by sculptor Linda Cordell Wed., Sept. 20. The workshop, in 1062 Bliss Hall, runs 1 - 4 p.m. while the lecture will occur in the McDonough Auditorium at 5:10 p.m.
Both events are free and open to the public.
Cordell, a child of the revisionist era, makes work that reinterprets the figurine, enabling animals to break the chains of cuteness and noble savagery. An appreciation of the ridiculous, a love of beauty and skilled craftsmanship, and the belief that domestic objects are social propaganda all contribute to her work.
A recipient of an Evelyn Shapiro Foundation Fellowship and a Pew Fellowship in the Arts in the category of crafts, Cordell's work has been exhibited in the Cheongju International Craft Biennale at the National Cheongju Museum, Korea; the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, NY; among others.
Parking is available in the M30 Wick Avenue parking deck via Walnut Street (GPS address is 100 Wade Street, Youngstown OH 44502) for a nominal fee.
