Lectures scheduled Oct. 26-28 on international sports
Hanna Vehmas of the Department of Sport Sciences/Sport Management at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland presents a series of lectures on international sports during a visit to Youngstown State University Oct. 26 to 28. The presentations, which are free and open to the public, will be in the Jones Room of Kilcawley Center:
- Monday, Oct. 26, “International potential for sport management” at 4 p.m. and “Sport Management Program” at 5 p.m.
- Tuesday, Oct. 27, noon, “Sport and Globalization.”
- Wednesday, Oct. 28, 4 p.m., “Sport and Health Related Tourism.”
Vehmas has worked since 1999 as a teacher and a researcher in sport sociology and sport management in the Department of Sport Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland. Since 2009 she has worked as senior lecturer of the International Master’s Degree Program in Sport Management and Health Promotion at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Vehmas has visited a number of foreign universities as a visiting lecturer. Her research interests and activities focus on sport and health related tourism, sociology of leisure, sport participation and the societal role sport and physical activity.
