YSU Wind Ensemble and Concert Band present concert with High School All-Star Wind Ensemble
The Youngstown State University Dana School of Music presents the Inaugural Mahoning/Shenango Valley High School All Star Wind Ensemble in concert with the YSU Wind Ensemble and Concert Band 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at Stambaugh Auditorium.
The All-Star Wind Ensemble is comprised of 38 students from high schools throughout the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys. The YSU Wind Ensemble is led by conductor Stephen Gage and the YSU Concert Band is led by conductor Brandt Payne.
Tickets are available that evening and are $7 for general admission, $6 for seniors, and free for anyone with a YSU ID.
“This is a fabulous way for high school music students to experience all that goes into a college performance,” said Gage. “They will sit right beside our Dana School of Music students on the Stambaugh stage during a rehearsal and performance. Our students and faculty will work with them throughout this process to showcase the level of musicianship necessary for one of our performances.”
The concert, “Mexican Dances,” begins with the Concert Band repertoire which includes Pierre La Plante’s “Prospect” and Gustav Holst’s “Second Suite in F for Military Band.”
The Wind Ensemble will perform Ginestera’s “Danza Final” from “Estrancia” and H. Owen Reed’s “La Fiesta Mexicana” – a short mexican symphony.
The combined bands – Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and High School students – will perform Claude Debussy’s “The Engulfed Cathedral” arranged by Merlin Patterson and Arturo Marquez’s “Danzon No. 2” (1994) arranged by Oliver Nickel.
Free parking is available adjacent to Stambaugh Auditorium. More information is available by calling the Office of Community Engagement and Events at 330-941-2307.
