YSU University Theatre announces 60th anniversary season
Youngstown State University Theatre announces its 60th Anniversary Season, marking a significant milestone for the institution.
After more than six decades, YSU Theatre has become a cornerstone of the performing arts community, fostering talent, inspiring creativity and captivating audiences with its exceptional productions. The upcoming season promises to be a celebration of the rich history, dedication and artistic excellence that define YSU Theatre.
“Zombie Prom,” a musical which infuses the undead with a touch of rock ‘n’ roll, will run October 6 – 8 and 13 – 15. Set in the nuclear 1950s, this exuberant production tells the story of a teenage love affair gone awry, resulting in a zombie transformation. Will love conquer all, or will societal norms prevail? Prepare for toe-tapping tunes and infectious laughter as "Zombie Prom" takes the stage.
Next, “Scapin” will run November 10 – 12 and 17 – 19. “Scapin” is a comedy which follows the misadventures of Scapin, a conniving servant with a knack for mischief and manipulation. As he navigates a web of love triangles and schemes, the play explores themes of deception, forgiveness, and the triumph of wit.
"It's a Small World or the Robot Play," a science fiction story which explores the implications of artificial intelligence, is showing February 16 – 18 and 23 – 25. Set in a future where robots coexist with humans, this play delves into the complexities of technology, humanity and the blurred lines between them. Audiences can expect a mesmerizing fusion of futuristic storytelling and poignant social commentary.
Finally, "Once Upon a Mattress" will close the season April 5 – 7 and 12 – 14. The musical is based on the beloved fairy tale, "The Princess and the Pea," with hilarious twists, catchy tunes and a dash of romance. "Once Upon a Mattress" offers a lighthearted and entertaining journey through the kingdom of merriment and happily-ever-after’s.
Season Subscriptions are on sale now. Season adult subscriptions are $55 and are available at ysu.tix.com. Discounts are also available for YSU Alumni, Penguin Club members, YSU faculty and staff and retirees and non-YSU students. Performances are free for YSU students.
