YSU starts new Sports Information and Media track in Journalism
Youngstown State University launches a new academic program this coming Fall Semester for students who want to enter the wide world of sports writing and communication.
The new Sports Information and Media track in the Bachelor of Arts in Journalism program is designed for students interested in public and media relations, news, publicity and sports writing, said Adam Earnheardt, chair of the YSU Department of Communication.
“The long-term plan for our department is to build a world-class sports communication program,” he said.
Four years ago, the department started a new Sports Broadcasting track in its Telecommunications Studies program that focuses on sports video production. The new Sports Information and Media track will feature a blend of journalism, communication, telecommunication, history and kinesiology and sport science classes designed to prepare leaders in the field of sports messaging and storytelling, Earnheardt said.
“This new track also gives our students the options to venturing down new paths in e-sports media relations, and into other new arenas for virtual competition,” he said.
