YSU SI program earns international certification
The Supplemental Instruction program at Youngstown State University’s Center for Student Progress has earned certification from the International Center for Supplemental Instruction.
YSU is one of only three certified programs in Ohio and only 34 in the nation.
“There were many components of the program we were very impressed with, and we feel confident that your practices uphold the SI model and that your program is one for others to emulate,” a reviewer from the ICSI said in assessing the YSU program.
Sue Marc-Sracic, assistant director at the CSP, led the application process for the certification.
ICSI is headquartered at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and has trained more than 1,500 individuals from 30 countries to start supplemental instruction programs on their campuses.
Supplemental instruction at YSU is a series of informal, voluntary, out-of-class study sessions that help students with particular courses. The free study sessions are held two to three times a week and are led by a student SI leader.
