YSU Physics Olympics inspires future STEM leaders in decades-long tradition
The annual Physics Olympics, hosted by YSU’s Department of Physics, Astronomy, Geology, and Environmental Sciences was held on Saturday, Feb. 22. This longstanding event, now in its fourth decade, continues to inspire and engage high school students pursuing a career in STEM.
The competition featured multiple teams from various high schools, with each team consisting of four to 20 students. Many employees from YSU’s PAGES department volunteered as judges, showcasing their dedication to STEM education and hands-on learning experiences for students.
Sarah Eisnaugle, part-time faculty member and assistant director of CCP and Jill Mogg, academic operations specialist, played a pivotal role in organizing the event, working closely with the rest of the department to ensure its success. Dean of STEM, Wim Steelant, also supported the event, reinforcing the importance of initiatives like the Physics Olympics in inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers.
