YSU offers free OpenACC GPU programming workshop

Youngstown State University is among only 24 sites nationwide that will offer a free workshop 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, presented by the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment.

The workshop on OpenACC GPU programming is in Meshel Hall and is open to all YSU students, faculty and staff. The workshop is also open to individuals outside YSU, but they will need to bring their own laptops. Only 20 spots are available.

Among the other sites offering the workshop are Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, Oklahoma State University, Purdue University, Georgia State University, Pennsylvania State University, Iowa State University and Louisiana State University.

OpenACC is the accepted standard using compiler directives to allow quick development of GPU capable codes using standard languages and compilers. It has been used with great success to accelerate real applications within very short development periods. The workshop assumes knowledge of either C or Fortran programming. It will have a hands-on component using the Blue Waters, which is deployed at NCSA.
