YSU Human Resources major achieves SHRM recertification
The Youngstown State University Human Resources program has achieved recertification by Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
Since January 2015, YSU has aligned its bachelor of science in Business Administration major in Human Resources program with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates. As of September 2023, YSU's program alignment has been renewed and the certification is valid till the end of 2027.
Throughout the world, over 500 programs in approximately 425 educational institutions have been acknowledged by SHRM as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates. The YSU curriculum focuses on the integration of all aspects of HR with one another, as well as other business functions. Students receive hands-on experience working with actual organizations in addressing HR challenges.
This alignment adds to the value of the program’s curriculum and demonstrates validity to the diligent work of students and their capabilities within the major.
The HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates were developed by SHRM to define the minimum HR content areas that should be studied by HR students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The combination of theory and practice built into the YSU curriculum gives students a competitive edge and a portfolio geared toward a strong understanding of HR knowledge and functions.
The guidelines — created in 2006 and revalidated in 2010, 2013 and 2017 — are part of SHRM’s Academic Initiative to define HR education standards taught in university business schools and help universities develop degree programs that follow these standards.
