A legendary Canadian sports mogul who helped create professional football and hockey leagues that later collapsed is the subject of a biography by Denis M. Crawford, adjunct faculty of Communications. The Life and Teams of Johnny F. Bassett: Maverick Entrepreneur of North American Sports chronicles Bassett’s adventures in professional sports, including signing three members of the reigning Super Bowl champions for his fledgling World Football League team, his audacious marketing of hockey in Alabama and his rivalry with Donald Trump for the U.S. Football League. Crawford, who earned a master’s degree in History from YSU, is also managing editor of The Coffin Corner, official magazine of the Professional Football Researchers Association.
Lori Fusco, assistant professor of Nursing, along with Amy Weaver, associate professor of Nursing, published the article “Medication Safety Competence of Undergraduate Nursing Students" in the Clinical Simulation in Nursing journal. The article examines the abilities of junior- and senior-level Nursing students in one of the major responsibilities for nurses: the administration of medication. Results can guide undergraduate curriculum planning to improve medication safety competencies in Nursing students.
Isam E. Amin and Alan M. Jacobs, faculty in the Department of Physics, Astronomy, Geology and Environmental Sciences, and their graduate advisees, recently published “Correlation between the rates and mortality of ischemic heart disease and magnesium concentrations in Ohio drinking water” in the International Journal of Ecological Economics and Statistics.
Deepa G. Iyer, assistant professor of Management, published “Overcoming Technological Inequity in Synchronous Online Learning” in Communications of the Association for Information Systems. The journal is intended to foster the free flow of ideas within the Information Systems discipline. Iyer holds a PhD in Information Systems-Design and Innovation from Case Western Reserve University and a master's in Information Technology from Fachhochschule Esslingen - Hochschule für Sozialwesen Esslingen in Germany. She previously was a software engineer and IT consultant and joined the YSU faculty in 2018.
Jake Protivnak, professor and director of the Counseling Program, along with Emily Herman and Danielle Matos, adjunct faculty of Counseling, published the article “Addressing the Unrecognized Grief of Elementary Students Experiencing Relationship Loss” in the
Journal of School Counseling. The article reviews the concept of unrecognized grief experienced by elementary students due to relationship loss and provides school counselors with individual, group and system-wide strategies.
