YSU Ethics Bowlers headed to nationals for second consecutive year

For the second consecutive year, Youngstown State University’s Ethics Bowl team is heading to the national finals.         

The team made up of students Lindsay Heldreth, Rachel Jenkins, Tyler Miller-Gordon and Jacob Shriner-Briggs placed first in the Central States Regional Ethics Bowl competition at Marian University in Indianapolis. Alan Tomhave, associate professor of Philosophy, is the team’s coach.

The Indianapolis contest was among 11 regional Ethics Bowl competitions across the United States and Canada. The victory earns the team a spot at the National Ethics Bowl competition in Dallas in February, hosted by the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics.

Last year, YSU’s Ethics Bowl team advanced to and placed second in the national finals in Reston, Va.

At the competition, teams argue and defend their moral assessment of complex ethical issues facing society today. Questions address a wide array of topics in business and professional ethics, in personal relationships, and in social and political affairs.
