YSU delegation "Speak Out" for Physical Education
A delegation from Youngstown State University attended National Speak Out Day - sponsored by the Society for Health and Physical Educators - SHAPE America, April 25-26 in Washington D.C.
Speak Out Day is an event for advocacy of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) funding of Title IV A and B and Title II.
Mary LaVine, assistant professor in Education and Physical Education majors Jessica Hyde and McKenzie Stelter represented YSU as three of the seven representatives from the state of Ohio.
Attendees represented their state, advocated to members of Congress and networked with fellow SHAPE America members in order to “speak out” in support of school health and physical education. As advocates they had a one day summit and one full day of scheduled meetings with federal legislators from Ohio. The Ohio advocates met with 7 legislators and/or legislative aides to request continued support for all children of Ohio for Health Education and Physical Education, as well-rounded education for all students.
The two day trip to Washington D.C. provided an opportunity for YSU students to experience advocacy in action.
