YSU capital campaign gains $450,000 in gifts

The Youngstown State University Foundation recently received three major gifts totaling $450,000 as part of its historic “We See Tomorrow” capital fundraising campaign.

John and Melissa Masternick have donated $250,00 to name the Masternick Family Respiratory Care Laboratory in Cushwa Hall. The Masternicks have a long-standing history of philanthropic support for YSU and numerous other causes in the Mahoning Valley. The YSU Respiratory Care Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.

The university also received two $100,000 gifts to name the radio booths in the new Constantini Multimedia Center at Stambaugh Stadium. The center, which will begin construction later this year, will be built on the east side of the stadium and will house classrooms and laboratories for the YSU Department of Communication, as well as game day activities for all stadium events.

Dennis and Janet Haines have gifted $100,000 to name the Dennis and Janet Haines Home Team Radio Booth. The Haines’ are long-time supporters of the university and, in 2012, were honored as Penguins of the Year by the YSU Penguin Club. They have made previous major gifts to create an endowed athletics scholarship.

Lee Hively, a 1974 YSU graduate, has donated $100,000 to name the Hively Family Visiting Team Radio Booth. The Hivelys have made previous major gifts to YSU for the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center and the Watson and Tressel Training Site.

The $100 million “We See Tomorrow” fundraising campaign, led by the YSU Foundation, includes $12 million for a new Student Success Center, $14 million for the Mahoning Valley Innovation and Commercialization Center, $20 million for scholarships and student work opportunities, $15 million for endowed chairs and professorships, $10 million for campus beautification, $5 million for Classrooms of the Future, $4 million for the Rich Center for Autism and $20 million for the YSU Annual Fund.
