Youngstown State University – Master of Health and Human Services becomes 17th NAB Accredited Health Services degree program
During the 2024 Annual Meeting, the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB) Board of Governors awarded accreditation to Youngstown State University – Master of Health and Human Services Program. YSU’s HSE degree program has become a high-quality program in a short period through the commitment and dedication of university leadership and faculty.
Gaylord “Z” Thomas, NAB chairman, presented the award. He recognized Youngstown State University for its commitment to higher education and quality program standards for graduates entering the senior living and health services profession.
“Youngstown State University would like to thank NAB for the opportunity to become an HSE accredited program,” stated Dan Van Dussen, Masters of Health and Human Services director. “Our Master of Health and Human Services, Health Care Administration Track, gives graduates the opportunity to work with residents of long-term care and assisted living buildings along with people using home and community-based services and supports to thrive in the least restrictive environments. Our foci are on person centered care, the ability to work across the continuum of long-term care services & supports, and to provide administrators who are well-versed in the NAB Domains of Practice.”
Established in 1995, NAB's academic accreditation program goals are to improve and strengthen the academic preparation of Health Services Executives. NAB encourages the improvement of baccalaureate and graduate-level HSE degree programs by application of specific accreditation requirements to measure characteristics of a program, and by making judgments about the overall quality of the program.
NAB’s accreditation program has evolved over the past 25 years from a degree in nursing home administration to the current Health Services Executive (HSE) degree program preparing students to meet practice standards in all lines of senior living and health services in states that have adopted the NAB HSE standard. Currently, 28 states have adopted the NAB HSE standard.
NAB, the nation’s authority on licensing executives in senior living and health services to deliver quality care, convenes 52 state regulatory boards and agencies, former state regulatory board members, academics, continuing education sponsors, and affiliated associations.
