Youngstown CPE Day May 17

Youngstown CPE Day, offering sessions on tax law, accounting, ethics, cyber security and other topics, is Friday, May 17, in Williamson Hall on the campus of Youngstown State University.

CPE, or Continued Professional Education, is required for Certified Public Accountants to maintain their professional competence and provide quality professional services.

The full-day conference for CPAs, enrolled agents and tax preparers is presented by YSU’s Williamson College of Business Administration and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants. Eight hours of CPE for Ohio and Pennsylvania along with eight hours of continuing education by the IRS for enrolled agents and tax preparers are available.

Youngstown CPE Day is among five seminars planned this year by WCBA and OSCPA. The other four include Youngstown Institute on Taxation June 14, Youngstown Governmental & Not-for-Profit Update Sept. 20, Youngstown Annual Tax Update Nov. 15 and Youngstown Accounting & Auditing Update Dec. 11.

All five seminars are 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. in Williamson Hall at YSU, with registration starting at 8 a.m. each day. Registration for all five of the seminars is at www.ysu.edu/taxseminars. Here’s a brief description of the remaining four seminars:

Youngstown Institute on Taxation, June 14 —This seminar is designed for practicing accountants, enrolled agents, and tax preparers who want to stay current and knowledgeable on tax regulations and laws including the new section 199A.

Youngstown Governmental & Not-for-Profit Update, Sept. 20—This conference informs financial executives in governmental and not-for-profit organizations as well as public accounting practitioners about the latest accounting and auditing developments affecting governments and not-for-profit organizations. Updates will be offered on Yellow Book requirements.

Youngstown Annual Tax Update, Nov. 15 —This seminar is for any tax advisor. This fast-paced one-day course covers the latest developments in federation taxation, with emphasis on real world implications. Topics covered include tax law changes, evaluation of court decisions, IRS notices, revenue rulings, and revenue procedures and their impact on tax planning and compliance; and the review of IRS audit issues and pending legislation. Emphasis on current issues, planning, and strategy keeps participants involved all day.

Youngstown Accounting and Auditing Update, Dec. 11 — This session covers new developments in accounting and auditing standards including advice on compliance with professional regulations. This comprehensive course covers relevant pronouncements, exposure drafts and other guidance recently issued in the accounting, auditing, review, and compilation arenas. With the rate of change in today’s regulatory environment, you must stay current on the topics affecting the profession.
