Student work on mural progresses
Work is underway on the Andrews Avenue Memory Mural Project, under the direction of Art Professor Dragana Crnjak and students in her special topics class on Creating Public Art.
The public art project, a partnership between Lit Youngstown and the YSU Department of Art and funded by the Raymond J. Wean Foundation, is along Andrews Avenue from Federal Street to East Rayen Avenue near campus.
The mural will include a ribbon of memories written by current and former residents and visitors to downtown Youngstown.
The project is also supported by Youngstown Cityscape and the Andrews Avenue Business Group.
“We have had a very dynamic first five weeks of the semester, meeting and working with many different groups and individuals within the community,” Crnjak said.
Other groups and individuals supporting the project are the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, YSUscape, Author Sean Posey, Geography Professor Dawna Carney and many volunteers.
