Student researchers must say it in 3 minutes at Feb. 21 competition
Six Youngstown State University graduate students face off in the finals of the Three Minute Thesis research competition 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 in the Presidential Suites of Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus.
3MT, founded by the University of Queensland in Australia, is a competition that requires graduate students to explain their research in three minutes.
YSU student competitors include:
- Ekaraj Ghimire, Civil Engineering. Faculty Advisor: Dr. Suresh Sharma. “Travel Time Computation and Damage Assessment in the City of Painesvile near Grand River, Ohio.
- Aspen Glaspell, Material Science and Engineering. Faculty Advisor: Dr. Kyosung Choo. “Improved Hip Replacements using Linear Friction Welding.”
- Alexander Huber, Biological Sciences. Faculty Advisor: Dr. Diana Fagan. “Purification of Phage-Displayed HSA-Specific Peptide for Biosensor Production.”
- Angela Mossor, Biological Sciences. Faculty Advisor: Dr. Michael Butcher. “Material Properties of Sloth Forelimb Bones and Tendons.”
- Francisco Oliva, Biological Sciences. Faculty Advisor: Dr. Gary Walker. “Anticancer Properties of Podophyllotoxin Analogues.”
- Astha Syal, Computing and Information Systems. Faculty Advisor: Dr. Alina Lazar. “Network Data Analysis to Predict Volume of Future Network Traffic.”
Winners receive travel grants to present at a professional conference: $500 for first place, $200 for second place and $200 for People’s Choice. The competition is sponsored by the YSU College of Graduate Studies.
