Ronald Shaklee elected to Phi Kappa Phi Board of Directors

Ron ShakleeRonald Shaklee, professor emeritus of geography at Youngstown University, was recently elected to serve on the board of directors for The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi—the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

The election took place immediately following the 2024 Phi Kappa Phi Biennial Convention, held virtually in August 2024.

As a director on the Society’s 12 person national board, Shaklee will represent the membership of Phi Kappa Phi while also working to support the mission and goals of the 127-year-old organization. He will serve a two year term during the 2024-2026 biennium.

Prior to his election to the national board, Shaklee served as chair of the Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship Committee for the 2022-2024 biennium and as a committee member for three previous terms. He also served as a Phi Kappa Phi regional vice president and as a member of the Love of Learning and Pioneer Award committees.

Shaklee served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. After his discharge, he attended the University of Kansas, where he earned B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in geography. His geographic specialties have included remote sensing, urban geography, and Latin American geography. He has been recognized as a Distinguished Professor for University Service on three occasions. He also earned a Distinguished Professor Award for Teaching and a Distinguished Chair Award for Teaching.
