Pi Sigma Alpha Receives Best Chapter Award

For the second year in a row, the national political science honor society Pi Sigma Alpha has recognized the Alpha Alpha Rho Chapter at Youngstown State University with a Best Chapter Award.

Pi Sigma Alpha, a national honor society dedicated to stimulating productive scholarship and intelligent interest in the subject of government among students at institutions of higher learning, also recognized the YSU chapter in their inaugural year with the 2015-16 Best Chapter award.

Throughout the 2016-17 academic year, the YSU chapter met with Chinese and Taiwanese students at a Republican Convention Watch Party on campus, co-hosted a “Rock the Vote” event with Student Government Association, worked with SGA to promote the Presidential Debate Watch Party on campus, hosted a documentary screening of “Traficant: The Congressman of Crimetown,” worked with the Sociology Club to promote a student debate on campus, hosted an induction dinner for new members and participated in various community service activities.

Pi Sigma Alpha was also the recipient of the Nova Award presented by the YSU Student Activities Office to “the most promising new student organization.”

The YSU chapter is led by advisor Adam Fuller, assistant professor of Politics and International Relations. Greta Frost, of North Jackson, Ohio, served as president for the 2016-17 campaign. Frost graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics in May 2017 and is now studying for her MA in the YSU Economics department. Junior Marissa Snyder of Cortland, Ohio will serve as president for the 2017-18 academic year.

The Best Chapter award is presented to local chapters that are particularly active in their departments and universities and exhibit high levels of energy and creativity in furthering the goals of the honor society. YSU was one of only four schools with enrollments between 6,000 and 15,000 students selected to receive a Best Chapter Award.

Chapters achieving the Best Chapter distinction receive, among other things, a $500 award.
