October is "Support WYSU Month"
Station Director, Gary Sexton Proposes Listener Challenge
The public radio service of Youngstown State University, 88.5 WYSU-FM, is holding a month-long donor and membership awareness campaign throughout October, 2023. The theme for the station's month-long fund raising effort is "Getting There Together." Throughout the month, the station will encourage listeners to make online donations to support WYSU’s service of intelligent news, informational programming, and the best classical and jazz music anywhere.
This year, WYSU Director, Gary Sexton is proposing a self-challenge with the goal of running 200 miles before the month’s end. Sexton plans to run one mile for every standard business hour between Monday through Friday, plus two additional miles to reach his goal.
Sexton explains his objective by demonstrating how "little bits" add up; emphasizing that listener contributions to WYSU, no matter the size, will go a long way when added to all the other contributions.
Listener support for this 54-year, treasured public radio service of northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania is more critical than ever.
Sexton in collaboration with Chicky Chix Films, made a video about Sexton’s perseverance and dedication to the cause, titled "WYSU Fund Drive Challenge", or, "The Revenge of the Chickens!" to continue listener participation.
Sexton says,“I hope my running and video inspires listeners to support my challenge, and, through it, your local public radio station.”
Sexton is encouraging donations of any amount per mile he runs. For additional information, contact Ed Goist at 330-941-1777, or goist@wysu.org.
