"Media, Capitalism and Democracy" is topic of Alternative Radio founder's lecture

David Barsamian, founder and host of Alternative Radio, presents “Media, Capitalism and Democracy” 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center on the campus of Youngstown State University.

Barsamian, born in New York in 1945, founded Alternative Radio in 1986. Alternative Radio is a weekly one-hour public affairs program offered free to all public radio stations in the U.S., Canada, Europe and beyond. It is now heard by millions of listeners on 185 radio stations.

He is a winner of the Media Education Award, the ACLU’s Upton Sinclair Award for independent journalism, and the Cultural Freedom Fellowship from the Lannan Foundation. The Institute for Alternative Journalism named him one of its Top Ten Media Heroes. He is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center. He has collaborated with the world-renowned Kronos Quartet in events in New York, London, Vienna and elsewhere.
