Maag Library celebrates Black History Month
Youngstown State University’s Maag Library is celebrating Black History Month with posters highlighting some of YSU’s outstanding African American alumni and organizations.
There are nine posters on display in the lobby of Maag Library, eight of which highlight distinguished alumni, while the other recognizes a student group.
The alumni, ranging from the class of 1926 to 1964, were chosen for their campus involvement and community service. These individuals have majors from law to music.
To create the posters, a team conducted research in the University Archives in Maag Library to find past editions of ‘Neon’, YSU’s yearbook; past articles from YSU’s newspaper, The Jambar; the Youngstown Afro-American Bicentennial book “A Rediscovery of Part of the Past,” published in 1976; archival collections; and course bulletins.
The posters are on display in Maag Library now.
