Lawn chairs, pops and the Wind Ensemble: Sept. 5, 7 p.m.
The Youngstown State University Wind Ensemble takes to the great outdoors to kick off the 2018-19 season with the free “Pops Concert 2018” 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 on Harrison Common Field, Walnut Street, on the east side of campus.
Bring your lawn chair and snacks to the location across from the MVR. Alcohol is not permitted. Ford Theater in Bliss Hall is the rain location. Parking is available in the M30 Wick Avenue deck or M32 surface lot via Walnut Street for a nominal fee.
The concert, performed as the sun sets and the stars come out, includes Fanfare on Star Spangled Banner, Star Spangled Banner, Porgy and Bess Medley, Variations on Scarborough Fair, Shenandoah Setting, The Incredibles and Danzas Cubanas.
“Harrison Common is an outstanding venue for this music, and the YSU Wind Ensemble is enthusiastically looking forward to performing under the open sky in our first concert of the semester, ” said Stephen L. Gage, conductor.
In 2018-19, the Dana School of Music celebrates 150 years as one of the region's finest cultural institutions. William Henry Dana's visionary "Musical Institute" has produced generations of professional musicians who perform in prestigious orchestras, military and jazz bands, and contemporary ensembles; teach in elite conservatories; and develop future musicians in primary and secondary schools throughout the nation.
