ITS department name changes
What’s in a name?
A lot, according to Jim Yukech.
Yukech, interim associate vice president and chief information officer, led a reorganization of the management team in Information Technology Services late last year that also led to some name changes in ITS departments.
“The changes were made to make them more intuitive for internal customers of their respective services,” Yukech said. “Prior to the name changes, several services had similar names that were not descriptive or were legacy names highlighting services that were no longer provided.”
For example, Media and Academic Services was a legacy name reflecting the department when a significant part of their services was graphic arts and media services, Yukech said. The name has been changed to ITS Customer Services, providing the primary “customer-facing” services, including the Tech Desk, Technology Maintenance Services and Campus Technology Services.
Also changed: Computer Services is now IT Application Services, and IT Operations is now IT Infrastructure Services.
In addition, there are two new groups – System Services and Network Services. And there is another group being developed named IT Business and Project Office that will manage all IT project work.
