Inaugural Pre-Health Research Symposium planned for Nov. 8
The Sokolov Honors college is hosting the inaugural Honors Pre-Health Research Symposium 2 - 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8.
All YSU students involved in health related research were invited to submit proposals to showcase their work to their peers, faculty and prospective students. Selected presenters will share their research in either oral or poster presentations.
Attendees can hear from a panel of undergraduate and medical students as well as keynote speaker, Ronald Seese, a physician scientist in pediatric neurologist with appointments at Akron Children’s Hospital and NEOMED. Seese has hired and mentored several YSU students in his research lab over the past few years.
A group of YSU-BaccMed students came up with the idea to showcase research their peers are doing while giving students an opportunity to gain experience presenting. The planning team consists of Kaitlyn Vail, Crescenzo Scheetz, Luca Ricchiuti and all second year YSU-BaccMed students majoring in Biology.
“We wanted to create a platform for students to share their contributions to health-related fields and inspire others to get involved in research early in their academic careers,” said Scheetz. “Our hope is that students will be able to gain insight on what research in their prospective careers look like, how they can get involved, and why research might be in their future.”
The agenda for the event is as follows:
- Opening session which will include a student panel and keynote from 2 to 3 p.m.
- Oral presentations from 3 to 4 p.m.
- Poster presentations and awards from 4 to 5 p.m.
All students, faculty, staff and community members are welcome. Register here.
