Flute, piano faculty featured in recital this week

The Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University presents faculty Kathryn Thomas Umble, flute, and Cicilia Yudha, piano, in recital 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3 in Bliss Recital Hall on campus. The recital is free and open to the public. They will perform solos and duo pieces. The repertoire includes Mel Bonis’ “Sonata for Flute and Piano”; David Loeb’s “Six Preludes - Studies on East Asian Pipes for Solo Piccolo”; Fikret Amirov’s “Six Pieces for Flute and Piano” Robert Casadesus’ “Sonata for Flute and Piano, Op. 18” and Sergei Prokofiev’s “Sonata for Flute and Piano, Op. 94. “ Kathryn Thomas Umble is associate professor of Flute at Dana. In addition to performing principal flute with the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra, Umble holds the piccolo position with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Erie Philharmonic, Opera Western Reserve, Fontainebleau Festival Orchestra, Erie Ballet Orchestra, National Flute Association Gala Orchestra and Toledo Symphony Orchestra. She has been featured in concerto performances with Warren Philharmonic Orchestra, Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, YSU Wind Ensemble and Bowling Green State University Wind Ensemble and Orchestra. She has presented recitals in Europe and throughout the United States. Indonesian pianist Cicilia Yudha is an assistant professor of keyboard musicianship at Dana. She made her debut with the Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall in 2003. Yudha was a winner of the Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Competition, Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, New England Conservatory Commencement Concerto Competition, and UNC Greensboro Student Artist Concerto Competition resulting in performances with each orchestra. Yudha earned a doctorate of Musical Arts from University of North Carolina Greensboro, where she received graduate assistantship, taught piano for non-keyboard majors, and coordinated the class piano program. She holds a bachelor of Music degree with honors from the Cleveland Institute of Music and also earned a master of Music degree in piano performance with honors from New England Conservatory of Music.
