Federal Frenzy Music and Arts Festival features Reel Big Fish, April 23

Rock band Reel Big Fish headlines the Federal Frenzy Music and Arts Festival 2 to 11 p.m. Saturday, April 23 in downtown Youngstown, sponsored by Youngstown State University Penguin Productions and the City of Youngstown. The event, which is free and open to the public, features more than 25 YSU bands and regional acts throughout the day performing at the Downtown Circle, The Federal, Friends Specialty/So Smooth, O’Donold’s Irish Pub & Grill, and Suzie’s Dogs & Drafts. Outdoor stage performances begin at 6:30 p.m. on West Federal Street. Tickets are not required for entrance. Other performers include Sam Goodwill, national touring indie electronic act Vinyl Theater, blues rock band Thaddeus Anna Greene, jazz performer Lili K, hip hop collective FreshProduce, and JD Eicher & The Goodnights, a Youngstown pop-rock band which has earned national acclaim. Eighteen YSU-affiliated student and faculty bands complete lineup: Black Wolf & the Thief, Colorblind, Event Horizon, Eye Do Naught Exist, Fifth & Aurora, Highland Rose, Hip Hop Anonymous, Knife Fighters, Leo D’Angelo, Liam Jones Duo, Matthew James, OutsideTheBox, Picnic Day, Portage, Roger Juntunen (Concertina Concerts), Songbird Lumberjack, The FX Project, and Trojan Horse.   “I am thrilled about this year’s Federal Frenzy lineup; Penguin Productions has collected a group of national, local and regional artists that people already know and love, and artists we think will become new favorites,” said Federal Frenzy Talent Lead Rodger Page. Youngstown CityScape, a non-profit community development organization dedicated to the improvement of the greater downtown Youngstown area, will manage and proceed from the day’s alcohol sales. Onsite screen-printing by the YSU Student Art Association, Yoga by Lauren, and Live Art by local painter Daniel Rauschenbach will be on Federal Street. From 6 to 10 p.m., guests are invited to attend a Night Market adjacent to Federal Street, coordinated in conjunction with Youngstown Flea. 90.7 FM The Summit, a locally owned and operated member-supported public radio station, will bring music into the streets of downtown Youngstown throughout the day, including a special performance by The Vindys. “I am beyond excited to bring together a community of students, faculty, families, and friends for a full day of music and the arts,” says Mollie Crowe, even lead.
