Fall Fire Fest Oct 15 features music, food, pep rally
Live music, a bonfire, food and drink vendors and a pep rally are planned as part of the third annual Fall Fire Fest 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 at Youngstown State University. The event, held in conjunction with YSU’s 75th Homecoming celebration, is at the Green on Grant, located at the intersection of Grant Street and Ford Avenue on the west side of campus. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public. Tickets are not required. The event is sponsored by YSU Penguin Productions. Musical entertainment will be provided by two Nashville based acts: The Vespers and Jordan DePaul. Playing as many as 115 shows a year, The Vespers have distinguished their sound with an arsenal of acoustic instruments and harmonies. Jordan DePaul, a Youngstown native, has established himself as a respected singer-songwriter and performer, and recently signed with Nashville Underground Management.
The Penguin Pride Rally will include remarks from YSU President Jim Tressel, the Penguin Pack, Homecoming chairs, and student-athletes. Proceeds from drink sales will benefit the Carmstrong Foundation, a non-profit organization that raises funds for pancreatic cancer research and a scholarship in memory of former YSU staff member Carmine Cassese. YSU ID required for student specials. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations for the Second Harvest Food Bank. YSU students who donate canned goods toward the food drive will be entered into drawings for prizes from local businesses and organizations. YSU Parking Services will extend operation of the University District Express Shuttle, with additional stops at the event site between 7 and 11:15 p.m. Penguin Productions, an organization of student committee members and advisors, creates, promotes, organizes and produces events for YSU students and the Youngstown community tailored to fulfill student identified needs and preferences.
