In her 27 years of service, Gucwa has stocked the shelves with YSU apparel, supplies and gifts and provided students, parents, alumni and faculty with superb customer service. She says the job is a good match for her because of the dynamic schedule. She strategizes with more than 25 companies to provide a variety of clothing, gifts and other products for the campus store. “The position is not a routine job,” she says. “Every hour is something different. I love working with students, and I truly enjoy working in retail.”
Gucwa supervises 15 to 20 student employees in the bookstore. “The skills they learn as student employees will give them a strong foundation for their future careers,” she says. A 1974 graduate of Struthers High School, Gucwa earned a YSU bachelor’s degree in Retail Marketing in 1981, with a minor in Management. Before coming to YSU, she worked as a buyer for Mall Shops Inc. In her spare time, she enjoys taking exercise classes at the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center. She and her husband, Paul, also enjoy listening to local bands, and she loves going shopping.
