About 300 students from nearly 20 schools in five counties will compete in the 40th annual History Day event Saturday, April 2, at Youngstown State University, sponsored by the YSU Department of History.
As part of History Day, the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor is offering free admission. The museum at 151 W. Wood St. on the YSU campus will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Two food trucks will be parked in the museum’s parking lot from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors are welcome to complimentary coffee or tea in the museum.
The theme for the 2016 History Day is "Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange." Students in grades 6 through 12 will demonstrate their historical knowledge and skills in several categories, including documentaries, papers, performances, websites, and exhibits.
The following schools will send students: Boardman Center Middle School, Boardman High School, Buckeye Online School for Success, Canfield Village Middle School, Cardinal Mooney High School, Field High School, Holy Family School, Hubbard High School, Hubbard Middle School, John F. Kennedy – Upper Campus St. Charles School, Springfield Local High School, Summit Academy Youngstown Secondary School, Ursuline High School, Valley Christian School, Windham Jr./Sr. High School and West Branch High School.
