Distinguished Professors honored April 19 on campus
Thirty-three outstanding Youngstown State University faculty members will be honored at the annual Faculty Recognition Awards Dinner on Wednesday, April 19, in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center on campus.
The late Joseph Edwards, former dean of the College of Fine and Performing Arts, will receive the Heritage Award posthumously. Edwards, 73, who passed away April 2016, served in several capacities at YSU, including director of the Dana School of Music and leadership positions in the Beeghly College of Education.
Also at the dinner, for the first time, adjunct faculty members will be honored with the Part-Time Faculty Teaching Excellence Awards. “Our part-time faculty make valuable contributions to advance the teaching mission of the university,” Provost Martin Abraham said. “It is appropriate that we recognize them for their talent and hard work.”
Also new this year is the Excellence Awards for Department Chairpersons, which allows one award to a department chairperson in teaching, and one award in scholarship.
For more information on the dinner and to make reservations ($20 per person), contact Mollie Hartup at mahartup@ysu.edu or 330-941-3086. Reservation deadline is April 12.
The dinner, which starts with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:15 p.m., is the culmination of the Faculty Recognition Week. Other events include the Faculty Recognition Breakfast, 7:30 a.m., Monday, April 17, in the President’s Suites, Kilcawley Center, on campus, and the Faculty Recognition Happy Hour Reception, 4 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at Cassese’s MVR.
