Dance films, lecture Oct. 28 in Bliss Hall

Jennifer Keller, assistant to the dean for the College of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts at Slippery Rock University, screens several of her short dance films and presents a lecture 2:30 to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, in Room 2200 of Bliss Hall on the campus of Youngstown State University.

The event, presented by the Department of Theater and Dance at YSU, is free and open to the public.

Keller will present several short dance films which she filmed and edited. She will facilitate a discussion about the creative process, filming and editing dance films and a hands on activity relating to filming dance on camera.

Keller teaches all levels of modern technique, dance technology, and contemporary partnering. She is the director of Rock Dance Company, dedicated to community and children's performances. Since 2008, Keller has performed with TanzTheater André Koslowski. Other professional credits include Dance Alloy (Pittsburgh), Mark Taylor & Friends (New York) and Locktime Performance (New York and San Diego). Her choreography and performance work has received a Pittsburgh Foundation award, the Harry Schwalb Excellence in the Arts Award, the 2003 SRU President's Award for Creative Achievement, and the 2002 Zuzak Teaching Artist/Scholar Award from the College of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts. Her current research focuses on the development of experimental dance film.

She received a master of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University, a bachelor of Arts from Connecticut College, and is a certified Core Dynamics Pilates instructor.
