Dana Chorale and Voices of YSU to perform Fall Choral concert
The Dana School of Music to present “We Rise Again,” the Fall Choral concert, 7:30 p.m., Mon., Nov. 8 at St. Columba Cathedral, 159 W. Rayen Ave. in Youngstown.
Ensembles include the Dana Chorale and Voices of YSU, Hae-Jong Lee and Daniel Keown, Directors. Jack Ciarniello and Kathy Miller will accompany.
“It is exciting to present Voices of YSU and the Dana Chorale in our first in-person choral performance since December 2019. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the breadth, depth, and versatility of the Dana School of Music choral music program,” said Dana Director, Joseph W. Carucci.
Both ensembles will perform music encompassing a variety of themes.
The Dana Chorale will perform “Songs of Hope and Beauty” that features music by James MacMillan and Jonathan Dove and American Folk hymn "How Can I Keep from Singing," arranged by Kirby Shaw.
They continue with “Songs of Life Beyond Life” including, among others, "To Thee My Heart I Offer" by Elaine Hagenberg.
They will also perform music by Ron Jeffers and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s "Love Make the World Go Round" as they explore “Songs of Love and Living,” including the concert title’s showpiece, "We Rise Again" by Leon Dubinsky, arranged by Stephen Smith.
The Voices of YSU repertoire includes thematic music, “Songs of Together” with music arranged by Mark Brymer and by composers Daniel Forrest, Moira Smiley and Mitchell Owens, III and the Bulgarian Folk Song "Svadba."
The combined choruses will explore “Songs of Divinity” as they perform Vivaldi’s Gloria in D major, first, seventh and twelfth movements, as the final piece.
The concert is free and open to the public.
