Business students selected for Ohio Export Internship Program

Ten business students, eight from Youngstown State University and two from the University of Akron, have been selected to participate in the Ohio Export Internship Program this year.

The students are Adam Aras of Boardman, Mariah Carna of New Bedford, Pa., Ellen Chittester of Youngstown, Allison Conroy of Canfield, Emily Lampe of Diamond, Evan Landgraff of Washington, Pa., Zhaoping Hu of Akron, Laura Hurst of Akron, Joseph Scott of Cortland, and Julian Testa of Canfield.

The Ohio Export Internship Program, created by the Ohio Development Services Agency and offered at Youngstown State University and the Ohio State University, provides an opportunity for businesses interested in exporting. Companies are matched with college students who have taken export-focused coursework. In the five years of the program, 144 student-company matches have been created, resulting in more than $26 million in expected global sales and 25 full-time job offers to students.

The program is a partnership between the Ohio Development Services Agency, Ohio State and YSU.

Adam Aras, Youngstown State University
A senior majoring in Accounting with a minor in marketing, Aras has lived in a number of countries including United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Canada. He also speaks fluent Arabic. Previous work experience includes working as a volunteer tax preparer and as a customer service specialist at J.C. Penny.

Mariah Carna, Youngstown State University
Carna is a junior majoring in international business with a minor in Spanish. During summer 2015, Carna studied abroad in London, where she completed an internship. She also participated in the Disney College Program at Walt Disney World in Orlando.

Ellen Chittester, Youngstown State University
Chittester is a senior majoring in international business and Italian. During high school, Chittester spent a year living in Italy as a Rotary Youth Ambassador. She also spent time in Guatemala during a mission trip. She is the president of the Italian Club and the Interact Club at YSU. She speaks Italian and Spanish.

Allison Conroy, Youngstown State University
Conroy is a junior majoring in information and supply chain management with a minor in international business. She plans to study abroad in Florence, Italy, in the fall. Conroy is the vice president of Beta Gamma Sigma, a premier honors society recognizing excellence in AACSB International accredited business programs.

Emily Lampe, Youngstown State University
Lampe is a sophomore majoring in international business with a minor in entrepreneurship, and a certificate in Enterprise Resource Planning. Her international experience includes traveling to Switzerland to participate in a leadership summit.

Evan Landgraff, Youngstown State University
Landgraff is a sophomore majoring in accounting. On top of being a full time student Landgraff owns and operates his own lawn care company, Green Grass Lawn Care, in Washington, Pa. He is also an executive board member of the Penguin Pack and a resident assistant at YSU. He has traveled to Greece, Germany and Austria.

Zhaoping Hu, University of Akron
He is a graduate student studying accountancy at the University of Akron. She previously completed a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management at Anhui University of Science and Technology. Her experience includes working as a cost estimator and construction project estimator in China. She speaks fluent Chinese.

Laura Hurst, University of Akron
Hurst is a junior majoring in international business. Her experience includes working as a student office assistant at the University of Akron. She speaks conversational German and hopes to study abroad in the future.

Joseph Scott, Youngstown State University
Scott is a junior majoring in accounting. He has worked as an accounting intern at Eastgate Regional Council of Governments since August 2016. He is the president of the Rotaract Club, where he is responsible for organizing volunteer projects. He also speaks conversational French.

Julian Testa, Youngstown State University
Testa is a junior majoring in information and supply chain management. He works at Gorant Chocolatier as a floor supervisor. His international experience includes studying abroad in the Middle East, specifically Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
