Bitonte College of Health and Human Services presents From Prevention to Survivorship: The Critical Role of Exercise in Cancer Care

Melanie PotiaumpaiThe Bitonte College of Health and Human Services at Youngstown State University will host Melanie Potiaumpai, a leading expert in exercise oncology, for a discussion on the role of exercise in cancer prevention, treatment and survivorship.

The event will be held from 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 22 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.

Potiaumpai is an assistant professor for the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the co-director of the UPMC’s Moving Through Cancer Program.

Her research focuses on the development, implementation and integration of exercise for cancer prevention, control and survivorship. Her work has spanned multiple clinical trials, investigating the impact of exercise on patients with breast cancer, hematologic malignancies and solid tumors during active chemotherapy and chemoradiation therapy. Currently, she is developing pre-surgical exercise interventions, or "prehab," that integrate into the clinical workflow to help ensure patient adherence and healthcare provider support.
