The band plays on: YSU Marching Pride performs Oct. 3 in Stambaugh Stadium

The 2020 football season may be on hold, but the band plays on.

Youngstown State University’s Marching Pride performs music from its pre-game and halftime shows at “Meet the Marching Pride” 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, in Stambaugh Stadium on campus.

The event is free and open to the public. Physical distancing and face coverings will be enforced. Parking is available for a nominal fee in the M-70 surface parking lot.

"Fall just isn't the same without marching bands and football games,” said Phyllis Paul, dean of the YSU Cliffe College of Creative Arts. “Since we can't get together in the typical ways, a lot of folks have collaborated to make this year's Meet the Pride event possible.”

Brandt Payne, director of Athletic Bands, added, “Especially during this unique time when live events are limited, our students are eager to have the opportunity to represent Youngstown and YSU in a fun and relaxing way.”

Even with extensive Covid-19-related safety protocols in place, “Dr. Payne and our students are working extremely hard, and we're delighted that they will be able to share their talents,” Paul said.

The marching band will be joined by the Penguinettes, Color Guard, Feature Twirler and the Drumline, and YSU Football Coach Doug Phillips will introduce football players. More information at 330-727-7514 or https://ysubands.org/marching_pride.
