Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music presents Pittsburgh-based trio “Chatham Baroque” in concert 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 29 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Avenue, Youngstown.
The concert, titled “Bach & Before,” is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken. Major support for the concert comes from St. John’s Church, WYSU and Dr. & Mrs. Albert Cinelli.
At 7 p.m., Dana faculty member Dr. Randall Goldberg will present a pre-concert lecture titled, "Instrumental Music Before Bach.”
"Chatham Baroque does not merely reproduce the repertoire of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century musicians,” Goldberg said. “They've also resurrected the nuances and spontaneity of a lost chamber music tradition. Attending their concerts is like being a fly on the wall at the jam sessions of ages past."
The trio consists of Andrew Fouts, baroque violin; Patricia Halverson, viola da gamba; and Scott Pauley, theorbo. The trio continues to excite local, national, and international audiences with dazzling technique and lively interpretations of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music played on instruments of the period.
Parking is available in the Wick Avenue deck for a nominal fee, or there are limited spots available in the St. John’s parking lot. For more information, call 330-941-2307.
