Robert W. Reeder I Distinguished Lecture in 19th Century History Presents: Dr. Joseph M. Beilein, Jr
We are pleased to announce that the annual Reeder Distinguished Lecture in Nineteenth-Century History will be held the evening of April 17, 2025. This year’s lecture will be delivered by Dr. Joseph M. Beilein, Jr., and is entitled “From Ohio Schoolmaster to Missouri Bushwhacker: The Strange Civil War of William Clarke Quantrill.” Dr. Joseph M. Beilein, Jr., is a professor of history at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College where he teaches history courses on the Civil War, Revolutionary America, Gender, and Military History. He has authored or edited five books including A Man By Any Other Name: William Clarke Quantrill and the Search for American Manhood (2023) and Bushwhackers: Guerrilla Warfare, Manhood, and the Household in Civil War Missouri (2016).

Cost of this event is free due to the generosity of the Robert W Reeder I Endowment in Nineteenth Century History, Chaired by Dr. Amy Fluker. Reception is further underwritten by the Dr. Charles Darling Endowment in American, Social, and Cultural History, Chaired by Dr. Martha Pallante.
Parking
With a reserved pass, the Steel Museum has free on-site parking in their lot with priority to the disabled and the presenters. YSU Students, Faculty and Staff are encouraged to park in YSUs adjacent lot, M50. Overflow visitor passes are available for $5. As always, street parking is available on Wood Street and is subject to the City of Youngstown's enforcement. Follow all posted laws, signage, crosswalks, meters, and/or respect restricted/blocked/coned areas.
