Coronavirus Information

With most aspects of life very close to pre-pandemic normal, YSU continues to monitor and align COVID-19 prevention efforts with local and state health information and guidance to safeguard the health of our students, staff and faculty. 

Vaccination, Booster & Flu Clinics

Getting vaccinated remains the most effective way to battle the virus. The Youngstown City Health Department will be offering the COVID-19 vaccines, boosters and flu shots at YSU’s vaccination clinics.

Testing

Free testing for COVID-19 is available on campus for all students and employees.

  • Mercy Health on Wick Avenue.
  • At-home testing. Kits for at-home testing are available in Rooms 2214 and 2303, Cushwa Hall, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The tests are designed to be taken at home, via a telemed appointment. The at-home testing is for surveillance purposes only - for individuals who have no symptoms. Anyone with symptoms should visit Mercy Health on Wick Avenue for a test.

Covid Case Follow-Up

While YSU no longer requires that COVID cases be reported, individuals who test positive, are experiencing symptoms or are a close contact are encouraged to follow proper protocols for isolation, quarantine and mask wearing. For more information on these protocols see the flow charts below.

Face Coverings

  • Youngstown State University is not requiring face coverings/masks be worn anywhere on campus.
  • Face coverings are recommended when the COVID-19 community levels are high in Mahoning County. Members of the campus community can make the best decision, on an individual basis, whether to continue masking. All members of the YSU community are encouraged to be respectful of the decisions of others and to continue to take any necessary personal precautions against COVID-19.

COVID-19 Community Levels

 
When making decisions about individual preventive behaviors in addition to vaccination, people should consider the COVID-19 Community Level in the county. Layered prevention strategies — like staying up to date on vaccines, testing, ventilation and wearing masks — can help limit severe disease and reduce the potential for strain on the healthcare system. The CDC recommends using county COVID-19 Community Levels to help determine which COVID-19 prevention measures to use.
