About the Program
Youngstown State University's Summer Honors Institute offers gifted students the opportunity to explore studies in a wide range of disciplines. Week-long, interactive courses are designed by YSU faculty to introduce students to new, contemporary subjects that aren't traditionally taught in high school.
Students can commute to classes each day or participate in the residential program to live in the Honors dorms for the week. A limited number of spaces exist for both options.
Eligibility
SHI is open to students who have:
- Completed 9th, 10th or 11th grade by the time the July program begins.
- Been formally identified as gifted and talented by their state's criteria for gifted identification, or by YSU Honors College requirements (3.5 GPA; 26 ACT or 1240 new SAT or combined 1760 old SAT).
A principal, guidance counselor or other administrator must recommend a student who applies. The signature of the authorized school official certifies this determination.
